Why don’t we just accept the situation and next year adapt a football chant for Eurovision? The Millwall one would be particularly appropriate… “no-one likes us. We don’t care.”

Aint that the truth!! Just to be (semi) serious, perhaps Gordon Brown should take note of who didn’t vote for us (most of Europe). A fair indication of our popularity within the EU. Once noted, we should withdraw immediately!!
Although I don’t understand why people always say stuff like, ‘typical, Serbia have just given Bosnia-Hertzegovina 12 points. It’s so political’. Weren’t these countries ethnically cleansing each other a few years ago? If the only thing that unites them is voting against the big European nations in a singing contast that none of us actually care about then let ‘em.
I think it makes perfect sense in many cases: these countries have similar cultural tastes so a song that appeals to one will appeal to all of them. Not only that, but often the singers are well-known in the region, perhaps having had lots of chart action.
At the root of it all, many other countries take it more seriously and end up with better songs, performed by artists with a track record of success.
It says a lot about our national ego that, if we are not winning, we assume everyone is voting against us deliberately. I don’t think the majority of joe publics at home in Azerbaijan or Norway are casting anyone-but-UK votes – they are just ignoring us because they don’t like our songs at all.
We find that harder to take than being persecuted because in that scenario we are not the centre of attention.
