Careless Whisper

Is it really such big news that Cadbury are bringing back the Wispa bar?  I’m not saying that I wouldn’t turn one down, but they have only been out of the shops for five years and, lets be honest now, were always a poor attempt at trying to appeal to Aero fans, and when Aero started doing the far superior Aero Chunky there was really no need for the Wispa.

If Cadbury really want to re-introduce something, how about the Country Style chocolate bar?  In the late 70s and early 80s they had a wide range of chocolate bars, including the Jamaica Rum bar, a mint chip bar and Country Style and then they seemed to retreat to just doing the Dairy Milk and Bourneville bars.  Now they are back to a big range again ((Fruit & Nut, Wholenut, Caramel, Crunchie, Bubbly, Turkish, Double Choc and Dairy Milk + Bourneville and the white chocolate Dream)) but the Country Style is conspicuous by its absence.  It had a sort of gingham wrapper and had raisins and bits of biscuit in it. Lovely.  I would swap a whole pile of Wispas for one of those!

The mint bar was also a favourite of mine, although I really can’t remember what it was called now.  How about getting the mint chip bar, Country Style and an orange flavoured bar out instead of all those bars with nuts or turkish delight in?

At this point it is traditional, and probably compulsory, to bring up the subject of Spangles…

The odd thing is we have been chomping on Wispas here in Yorkshire for at least the last 6 months. Does that mean we are guinea pigs for the chocolate makers? I’ll keep an eye out for any exciting developments vis-a-vis the Country Style bar (that’d be a really cheap Christmas present!) but don’t hold your breath!

It might just mean that the shops had a load of five-year-old stock they found in the back of the cupboard 🙂

It is for a similar reason that I never give in to the temptation to have an ice lolly in the first warm week of the year… not after a bad experience in Putney: I just know it was a leftover from the previous summer.

You could probably make your own Country Style using a raisin & biscuit Yorkie and a steam iron.

No, I think we were a trial area for the relaunch. There was marketing and everything. A fairly young colleague (only in her early twenties) got her first experience of sweetie nostalgia when she saw the posters so we had to have some. Not just because they were made of chocolate.
