New Gold Dream

August 16th, 2008 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 2 Comments · Life

I am starting to wish I had started my holidays a week later.  I am enjoying watching the Olympics, but now I have to return to work on Monday.  Today was good though: not just for the gold medals in swimming and rowing, and the many medals in cycling but also for the commentary.  Towards the end of the cycling points race the commentator managed to slip in the word ‘antepenultimate’.  Also in the cycling commentary the phrase ‘race face’ cropped up a few times.  What a great name for a band…

The commentator for the coxless fours was getting so worked up that his voice was going in the last 200 metres or so. Assuming Murray Walker is still around in four years I reckon we should make commentating an Olympic sport in itself!

If they did that I reckon Sid Waddell would run away with the gold with lines like:

“When Alexander of Macedonia was 33 he cried salt tears because there were no more worlds to conquer – Bristow is only 27”
