British comedy has had a bad week with the death of Ken Campbell following very soon after that of Geoffrey Perkins. If it was possible to measure such things objectively I think you would find the world is now several percentage points less funny than it was last week.

I wonder if this is a good idea? If BAA are forced to sell off one or two of their London airports, Virgin are interested in buying Gatwick as part of a consortium.

It appears that Tesco have come up with an ingenious solution to the old conundrum of labelling the ‘express’ tills. “10 items or less” is just wrong, but “10 items or fewer” sounds clumsy to many people so they have avoided the issue by saying “up to 10 items”.
