I know I have said it before, but something so true cannot be repeated too often… the Christmas holidays are brilliant. Even those of us who do not really enjoy the Christmas element can really go for the holiday part because it is the best holiday of the year. Every other time you take time off you can’t relax 100% because there is always that knowledge that your colleagues are still at work.
In a bad, competitive place they will be plotting, scheming, stitching you up and generally advancing their careers at the expense of yours. Even in a decent civilised place, like mine, people will be forwarding emails to you and piling up little tasks on your desk. At Christmas everybody else is off at the same time so you can relax. By the time the end of the year comes I am actually looking forward to going back to work in January, refreshed and ready to go.
I’m finding Christmas stressful this year (because I’ve left everything to the last minute and am cooking the Christmas dinner). Still, I’m sure the holiday spirit will hit me on Boxing Day.
