Mean streets

January 7th, 2009 · Posted by Skuds in Life · No Comments · Life

The streets of Horsham are not the place to be at the moment.  Looking at the RSS feed for ‘Horsham Today’ here are eight headlines for consecutive stories within the last 12 hours:

  • Power failure after car crash
  • Vehicles collide at junction
  • Crash near Bolney
  • Car ends up on side
  • Two cars in A24 collision
  • Road blocked after accident
  • Motorcyclist in accident
  • Car overturns in crash

Nothing new really.  Local papers would have a lot of blank space if they didn’t write a story about every road accident that happens, I was just struck by the uninterupted stream of RTA stories in one mass.  The problem is that there is a risk of overload with them all and diminishing interest as the details get lost in a blur of deja vu.   At any time the most recent crash is no less traumatic for those involved than previous ones, but the public can get de-sensitized to it all.

Unless they happen to have a 17-year-old who has recently got his first scooter and is out on these roads every day…
