Ulrika-ka-ka-ka

January 24th, 2009 · Comments Off on Ulrika-ka-ka-ka · Life

I don’t watch Celebrity Big Brother, although it surely has the edge on the non-celebrity version by not going on for so many months, but I did see the news today that Ulrika won it.    Yesterday I was enjoying a bacon sandwich in the cafe and saw Ulrika on the front page of a Daily […]

New council leader

January 24th, 2009 · Comments Off on New council leader · Politics

The leader of Horsham district council is standing down this year and is expected to be replaced by Robert Nye who is currently the deputy leader and, presumably, not the same Robert Nye who wrote some excellent novels about Merlin, Faust and Mrs. Shakespeare. This story is illustrated on the County Times website with a […]

Crawley Question Time:part two

January 24th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Life, Politics

This second installment is not about the issues discussed on the programme, but just what you might call the human interest angle, and some glimpses behind the scenes which may (or may not) put some aspects of the show in a different light. Be warned, this a long one: sorry for that. Which reminds me: […]

Crawley Question Time: part one

January 23rd, 2009 · Comments Off on Crawley Question Time: part one · Life, Politics

That’s ominous isn’t it?  “part one”…   It is not that I intend to go on and on at such great length that it requires two parts, though I can’t promise that I won’t, it is just that I want to separate comments on the content of the show and a description of the mechanics of […]

Question Time

January 22nd, 2009 · 9 Comments · Life, Politics

Despite a personal feeling that the programme has seen much better days, I am still quite chuffed to be going along to Crawley’s Hawth theatre to see Question Time get recorded tomorrow.

A job I couldn’t do

January 21st, 2009 · Comments Off on A job I couldn’t do · Life, Music

In the Crawley Observer today there was a sort of advert for a sort of job.   Not really a job, because no payment is mentioned, more of a task.  All I know is that I certainly couldn’t do it – reviewing local concerts for their online reviews section.

The Olivetti Chronicles

January 21st, 2009 · 2 Comments · Life

I make no secret of my affection for the late John Peel.  I’m sure he would be the first to admit that he was far from perfect, but he was one of the few celebrities I could imagine seriously wanting to be.  The most obvious reason for his becoming a national treasure was his radio […]

A night with Eric

January 20th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Music

I received an e-mail today. I am not sure whether it is a scam or just spam, but it all seems too horribly plausible and I suspect that it may be for real.  It is an invitation to buy tickets for a VIP Eric Clapton package.

Sweary turtle

January 20th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Life, Technology

Having somewhat of a backlog of books to read, DVDs to watch and so forth, I was going to not bother choosing anything trom Amazon’s Vine programme to review this month – I still have a film and a bit of software to review from last month.     I still looked at the monthly newsletter when […]
