While I was in town today I looked in the book shop window and saw a book called Jade Goody: Fighting to the end, My autobiography 1981-2001.   At the time I thought that the implications were a bit distasteful. She died on Sunday and on Friday there is a book in all the shops with “1981-2009” on the front cover.  So either the publishers had the book all printed up and sitting in the warehouse ready to ship as soon as they got the nod or they had the printing presses all primed to go as soon as she went.  Either way it seems very ghoulish, and I suspect the influence of Max Clifford in all this. Max Clifford, who is always described as Jade’s “publicist and friend”.  Friend?  “Publicist, vulture and slimeball” mightbe a better description.
Anyway, its even worse than that. Looking on Amazon I see that the book is not only number 50 on their best seller list at the moment but that the publishing date is given as Monday 23rd March. That is a whole 24 hours after she died. How sensitive.
Perhaps the most poignant thing was seeing the book in WH Smiths at half price. Already. Presumably they need to clear shelf space before her next book comes out in April, washed up on a tide of crocodile tears from Mr. Clifford.

Jade Goody has sealed yet another exclusive television deal. She’s announced that she will be appearing in “Most Haunted” sometime in early April.

Jade Goody was a media “commodity” – essentially they ‘owned her’, and made a lot of money through that ‘ownership’.
Give it a few more weeks, and Jade will disappear into that vortex of media oblivion travelled by so many.
She will be ‘replaced’ when every last penny of profit is squeezed from her existence…and when some other “commodity” comes along ripe for ownership.
