Back to the future

May 26th, 2009 · Posted by Skuds in Life · No Comments · Life

I am now two-thirds of the way through the DVD box set of the  Back to the Future trilogy.  Somehow I managed to get this far without seeing any of them.  I have been on the set in California and seen the town hall and I went on the ride (either in California or Florida. Or maybe both).  I probably even saw the DeLorean itself on one of the srudio tours, but never actually watched the films.

Hardly high art, but quite entertaining, even if a lot of the acting is over the top, the make-up is terrible and the special effects are primitive.  Got to make allowances for the times though.  The trick to enjoying any film is what our old English and Film Studies teacher used to call the willing suspension of disbelief, so I was prepared to accept that Biff wouldn’t notice Marty McFly following him only a couple of metres behind, that he didn’t see him in the back seat of his car or even hear him using a walkie talkie there.

I couldn’t get close to believing that Michael J Fox was a teenager though.  He must have been mid-twenties when the first film was made and his character was supposed to be seventeeen…

I’m on a bit of a roll now. Maybe after I have watched the third one I should catch up with more of those films I never quite got round to seeing.  Like the Godfather. Must be able to pick them up cheap now.

Talking of cheap, in HMV the other day I saw a box set of all 4 Alien films, both Predator films and the two Alien v Predator films for £12.99.   Such a bargain, I was almost tempted to get it, even though I already have all 8 films.  I tried not to think how much I spent over the years buying those films individually.
