Feeling old

June 17th, 2009 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 2 Comments · Life

There are all sorts of things that are supposed to make you feel old, but which I take in my stride.  What finally did the trick was a bit of maths revealing something which has been true all my life but which I never appreciated until now.The grey hair has never worried me, the odd aches and pains I largely ignore.   I totally accept my fondness for carpet slippers and don’t bat an eyelid when I realise that a work colleague who has been with us for a year and had time to get a degree before joining us is half my age.

What stopped me in my tracks was the realisation that I was born a mere 17 years after World War Two ended.  Why had I never realised that before?  It has always been the case.

Bugger. And you were at secondary school before the end of the Vietnam War (and I was into double figures). Still younger than Ivy though…

Rob says his Dad was born 9 years after the end of WW1. Our dad was born only 19 years after. I think I’m off to lie down for a bit.
