New phone

Sony Ericsson W715

Sony Ericsson W715

I gave in today and got a new mobile phone.   I don’t really use the mobile much: I don’t make many calls and certainly don’t receive many, but it was getting a little frustrating that I was missing what calls and texts I was receiving because the old phone didn’t make a noise.

To be fair, it was Jayne’s old phone and that is why she gave it to me in the first place.I have gone for a contract phone instead of pay-as-you-go this time.  Not that I was topping it up very often, but it was a pain to do.  Given my low usage, I have gone for a suitably cheap contract, but got a phone that seems to do a lot of stuff.  Apart from the camera and mp3 player it also has GPS, internet and even wi-fi capability.  There is a sat nav capability, you can change tracks and adjust volume on the mp3 player by shaking the phone, and it came with a 4GB memory card in it.  Truly a work of genius, an almost certainly wasted on me.

I’m not sure if I want to be able to use the internet, but there is a month’s free trial of that so I can see how it goes.  Maybe I’ll get hooked?  Maybe I’ll even start using Twitter?  Maybe I’ll even work out how to set it all up before the month is out.

I do like technological toys, but for some reason I have a real blind spot with phones.  They just don’t excite me much.  I try to read the manuals but I have an attention span of about one paragraph when it comes to mobile phone manuals.  So far I have set up the wifi to use my router at home and configured the e-mail for my Googlemail account – with all the spam I get I don’t think I will risk accessing my normal mail account from the phone just yet.  I also copied across the music I had on the old phone and allocated some to ringtones.  That is enough for one day I think.
