Cheap Janet Jackson rip-off

November 19th, 2009 · Posted by Skuds in Music · No Comments · Music

I turned on the TV to have a little distraction while I sat down with a cup of tea and some cream crackers with Laughing Cow spread on them, ((serving suggestion))  and was immediately presented with the BBC’s Children In Need concert from the Albert Hall just as Cheryl Cole was being introduced. As soon as she marched out with her vaguely military costume all in white, surrounded by dancers wearing their vaguely military costumes in all in black my first thought was that it was an extremely poor version of Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation video.

I should have turned the thing off, but it is real car crash TV.  The hyper-excited audience seem to be enjoying it though.  Am I just being an old fart?  I think that even when I was a teenager I would not have been happy with a concert where a lot of big names came on sang one song (their biggest hit unless they have a brand-new single to push) then went off, but who knows?

Come to think of it, my favourite bands when I was a teenager tended to have 10-minute songs so maybe it would not have been too bad.

The concert has just redeemed itself by giving me a genuine smile when Dizzee Rascal popped up on stage to join Shirley Bassey on Diamonds Are Forever – and then brought me back down with Snow Patrol.

As I type this I am now faced with Snow Patrol bringing on Cheryl Cole to sing with them…  maybe I should turn it off now while I still can.
