Them Crooked Vultures

The self-titled debut album from Them Crooked Vultures appeared on Spotify this week.  I had been looking forward to hearing it and I wasn’t disappointed.

Unsurprisingly, a lot of it sounds like Queens of the Stone Age.  In fact if I had heard it in a sort of ‘blind-tasting’ I would have guessed it to be a QOTSA album.  But there is more to it than that; Gunman  has more than a hint of Led Zeppelin to it and Scumbag Blues even sounds a bit Cream-y to me.

What it doesn’t sound like is Nirvana or the Foo Fighters, which is a bit of a surprise.  Good to see Dave Grohl back behind the drumkit and John Paul Jones looking younger than his years on bass.  I might be buying this one so I can put it on the MP3 player.
