Scar relaxing in happier days

Scar relaxing in happier days

We decided a while a go that, for various reasons,  we would not have any more pets.

After Ziggy died we weakened a little bit and so Rojo joined the family, but that was a momentary lapse of reason – somebody we knew had kittens who needed a home, we had a home… it seemed like a good idea. But we were firm: Rojo would be our last pet.  Jayne was adamant about that, and I was more than happy to go along with it.

Anyway, now Jayne’s cat has gone.  The vet said he had inoperable cancer of the tongue and throat.  He was already suffering quite a bit (hence the trip to the vet in the first place) and apparently he was going to get a lot worse very quickly so we had no choice really but to let the vets help him on his way.

Scar was in this house before I was, and that is about ten years now.  He had been part of the kids’ lives for more than half their own lives so they were all very upset about it.

Yesterday evening, watching Rojo playing with his toys, Jayne says “I think he needs company.  I think we should get another kitten.”

I should put my foot down and remind her of all the reasons we originally decided to not have pets, but…  kitten!  Who can resist a kitten?  I just have to think back to what Rojo was like when I got him and I am totally sold on the idea.

Don’t think we have actually had this conversation, Rob & I, but I’m voting for a short cat-free period after Moth has finally gone to making a mess of that great kitchen in the sky….
