Less than perfect start to the campaign

I don’t think anybody was surprised by today’s events, but it was still a relief to get confirmation that the ‘cold war’ is over at last.   During the day I had a few phone calls, texts and voicemails, hits to the Horsham Labour website started really taking off and emails were piling up waiting for me to get home and deal with them. When I got home I found that getting to emails was not quite as easy as I could have hoped.  Jayne has decided to make the most of the school holidays and do a bit of decorating so everything is a bit chaotic.   I think she had most of the family round here helping out, and so I was greeted by the sight of empty shelves.

Given that I have about a thousand books on the shelves it was no trivial task to get them all down and pile them up on the sofa and in the cupboard in no particular order – though putting them back was possibly even worse.  I decided that the best thing to do would be to take the shelves down and paint the wall behind so I could get everything back to normality sooner.

So I painted the back wall, sorted out the nest of cables behind my desk while it was drying, and then started piling the books back on the shelves.  The end result is that it all looks the same as before because the wall is totally obscured by books – but at least we know it is a different colour behind them.

A little bit more to finish when I get home tomorrow and everything should be fine – I have even ended up with more deskspace, which will come in handy.   All a bit of a rush, but I think we have to get it all finished before the new kitten arrives – when that happens we won’t be able to have all the doors and windows open for a while.

I’m beginning to wish I had decided to take a few weeks off work for the campaign after all…
