Sherlock

I am a little bit of a fan of Sherlock Holmes.  Not totally obsessive – only a couple of the boxes I am packing are full of Holmes-related books, and I have only visited the set of the Granada series once.  OK, so I used to have a Sherlock Holmes tea towel and like to pop into the Sherlock Holmes pub in Charing Cross when I am up in town,  and did go to see the stage play with Jeremy Brett in it…  but lots of people are more fanatical about it all than me.

I bet they didn’t forget to watch the new Sherlock programme on TV tonight…You have to love the modern world though.  Even ten years ago forgetting to watch a TV programme meant yo had missed it.  The TV channels were not in the habit of repeating every new show during the week after – they didn’t have all those subsidiary channels to do that.  You would be asking around work colleagues to see if anybody had recorded it.

Realising you had missed some new show could be a bit stressful; wondering if you would find some way to catch the first one before the second week, and if you couldn’t you had to decide whether to watch part two without having seen part one.  Now you just make a mental note to watch it on iPlayer on the PC or on the cable TV, or the inevitable repeat on BBC Three during the week.

Looks like th show has been well-received and I’m looking forward to seeing it tomorrow.  It will be a novelty to have a reason to leave the TV on after University Challenge.
