Is the party over for Crawley Town?

I hope not, but it is not looking good at the moment. Steve Evans is all over the local paper saying we ‘battered’ Southend, and maybe we did but we also only drew when Southend had 9 men and we had a penalty.

Of course a couple of games postponed because of frozen pitches and a cup run mean that Crawley’s league position looks worse than it should be due to playing 20 or 3 games fewer than all the teams around and above us and two weeks ago we could still have felt confident about being in the top two if we just won all the games in hand. But now we could win all our games in hand and just scrape into 3rd and it is a big ask when the two top goalscorers have been sold and the club hasn’t won in 5 games.

Mind you, we do at least have financial security now and no chance of relegation which is a relief after all those Majeed years and you can’t blame the board for prioritising that when they received two offers they couldn’t refuse. I reckon we could still make it into league one, though it will be harder than before, but the end of the season is going to be a lot more exciting than it looked like being a month ago.

But promotion would bring more money in than the sale of one of those players did, so I don’t think it was a great decision.

Because I can’t see them going up this year. Playoffs at best.
