I noticed today that our laundry detergent has a ‘flavour’: peony with rose blush. What does that even mean?
At first I misread it. I thought it said peyote, which would really be a novel approach to laundry. Not that I have ever had any experience of peyote, but I have seen it mentioned in writing a lot more often than peony (whatever that is). I think I saw a support band called Peyote for President once as well – possibly supporting Manu Chao.
I guess it would be more accurate to call it a fragrance rather than a flavour, since peony with rose blush is presumably something you would smell and not eat. That is probably a good thing. I do get a little concerned sometimes when various household cleaners are given a flavour which could almost be designed to make kids want to drink them. We used to have some floor cleaner with a strong lemon smell that exactly reminded me of the lemon ice cream cones I used to like as a kid, to the extent that I was almost tempted to taste it.
Given some of the nanny state regulations we have I am actually surprised it is allowed.
