Days Like This

Today must count as a good day.

  • A small (£3) win from Friday’s Euro lottery
  • Another lot of election leaflets distributed to a volunteer for delivery, which means that I now have a manageable number to deliver on my own.
  • The back garden cleared of weeds and dog eggs so it is now presentable
  • West Ham now safe in the Premier League after beating Spurs
  • Brighton pipping Reading to the last play-off place

The election leaflet thing is good news for all sorts of reasons. The volunteer is a member who has not previously been active, as far as as I know, so even if it comes to nothing the campaign is increasing our activist base a bit. It also means that I am going to get out all the leaflets I was given without too much trouble, even though I got them at short notice. It also means that if I get a similarly ambitious number of election addresses in a week or so I should be able to get them all out too.

I guess this means I have been upgraded from a completely paper candidate, even if only to a stiff cardboard candidate. I think the situation is that although I am not expected to win, if I do it will only be a surprise but not a shock – thanks to the general disarray of the Crawley Tories and the effect of the UKIP campaign.

If it means anything, I am actually going to take a day off work to go to the count this year, which I haven’t bothered to do for the last couple of local elections I stood in.

The gardening thing was fun too. Noche was a bit bemused by it all. He has never seen gardening before – we have only had him about 18 months.
