At last – the end of the 80’s and music was starting to pick up quite a bit. There were some great singles, especially dance tunes, and some equally great albums, although my track of the year is perhaps not an obvious one.

Getting On
February 26th, 2019 · Comments Off on Getting On · Life, Work
I don’t really feel my age. I don’t know why this is, because my body certainly does – I am slower, weaker, less flexible and creak a lot more than I used to, but somehow I don’t really feel any different than I ever did. That all changed a bit this week. I am in […]

1988 – The Race

The few years between 1988 and about 1993 are a bit of a blur for me both musically and personally. I can’t remember exactly when the wheels fell off, but by 1988 I wasn’t really married anymore. When trying to pin down music to a date one of my reference points is who I was […]

Another year and still the music was a bit naff, but with some signs of life and items of interest to point out while waiting eagerly for the 90’s to arrive.

Lets be honest, the mid-80’s were pretty dire for music, and I’ll be glad to get onto more interesting times.

I went to my first biker’s funeral today. It wasn’t somebody I knew, but he was the husband of one of Jayne’s friends from her motorbike women’s group and from the Horsham motorbike group on Facebook. First of all we met up with the Horsham lot at Pease Pottage then rode down to Handcross where […]
1985 – Take On Me

A big year for me, it was when I got married. OK so that didn’t work out brilliantly in the long term but at the time it was all looking good. The wedding also led, indirectly, to my first experience of music TV. At the time I did not have cable or satellite television and […]

We are always quick to complain when we are unhappy with a shop or service. Social media makes it even easier, and bloggers are probably the worst. Never have there been so many ways to vent your consumer frustration, but when you get good service its nice to use the same channels to share that […]

1984 – I Feel For You
February 18th, 2019 · Comments Off on 1984 – I Feel For You · Music
A year of change for me. I moved from West London to South-East London and found that it was where I really belonged. I also changed up from a bedsit to a proper flat and not only that I was co-habiting. This was all new territory for me and there was a knock-on effect on […]

1983 – Let’s Dance
February 18th, 2019 · Comments Off on 1983 – Let’s Dance · Music
Not a brilliant year musically, but a big improvement on 1982. Metal continued to get more attention, synthesizers were getting everywhere, over-production was becoming the norm, and British jazz/funk/pop was getting ready to take over the decade. Pink Floyd, Genesis and Yes all brought out new albums so us 70’s survivors had something to cling […]
