I heard of a game recently where you come up with imaginary prog rock albums using Wikipedia’s random article feature. The first random article gives you your artist name, the second gives you the album name and subsequent articles give you song titles. I thought I would give it a go…

Artist: Sony Bend

Album: Faye Cooper-Cole

Tracks:

Bugle calls of the Norwegian army

Riverside Park, Jedburgh

Alfredo García-Baró

Dynasty Tour

Charles Brooks Smith

Francis Xavier Caldwell

A Trip to the Dentist

And another attempt…

Artist: Colorado General Assembly

Album: ?a?avica

Tracks:

Culture Shock (Sam & Max)

Face Value

Osazone

Chestnut Hill Branch

Dodworth St John the Baptist CofE

Sheikh Fazlollah Noori

I quite like the second one. Almost sounds authentic.

Last week the world was introduced to the acronym McMabawb by Danivon but although it was an interesting and catchy word to sum up a particular phenomenon it is somewhat lacking in vulgar schoolboy-humour appeal. This week I found an acronym which satisfies the vulgarity test:

DARS = Deployable ARS

It must be real because I have found it on several websites, including this list of hi-tech terms, even though it is not to be found on the mighty Acronymfinder.com (which deserves a place on everybody’s bookmarks)

Anyway, this is now my favourite acronym, until the next one comes along, and I recommend it to any bunch of teenagers hanging around in a garage with guitars and scrabbling around for a band name. Who could resist seeing “Deployable Arse” in the charts?

I found this site today. Its a band name generator. The idea is that if you have a band and can’t think of a name, this will give you suggestions which have not been used.

In many cases, they are names which are unlikely to ever be used, but some have a certain ring to them. Ones it threw up for me are: Public Mullett, Haunches of Filth, Chive Juice, Extreme Floor Mats, and Amazon UK. I suspect there would be some copyright/trademark issues with the last one. Still, its an amusing way to pass a few minutes.
