My pass for the party conference in Brighton arrived today, along with a very daunting little book.  The book has page after page of listings of official and fringe events.  Having never been to a conference before I just find it a bit overwhelming: how do you choose what to go to?

Sadowitz in Brighton
August 24th, 2009 · Comments Off on Sadowitz in Brighton · Life
Jerry Sadowitz is famously offensive, vulgar, obscene and provocative but he would have had to go into overdrive to give me a bigger shock than the price of a drink at the Komedia!  The place is probably not more expensive than other clubs, its just that I don’t go out very often and even then […]
Meaningless statistics

There was an eye-catching headline on the Argus website about how ‘Salaries in affluent Brighton are £3000 below average‘. It also says that salaries in Crawley have dropped £6,000 in the year. And its all rubbish.

I'm sure they will play well, and the songs will sound good, but its not really The Jam without Paul Weller is it?

This story from the Brighton Argus must be a gift to sub-editors or topical news quiz gag-writers. As a fine practical demonstration of just one of the many reasons why I am not employed as a gag-writer on a topical news quiz I can’t find a witty and hilarious joke to make – but I’m […]

Two headlines from the Argus this week: Tuesday 29th May: Brighton among most secure places in Britain Wednesday 30th May: Police officer’s car stolen – from police station Slightly spoiled by the fact that, when you actually read the second story it is not about Brighton but Arundel. Even so, the first story does have […]

Old Bangers

One of the many advantages of living in Crawley is that it is halfway between London and Brighton. The trip from London to Brighton is a popular one for motoring events, so it is not unusual to see, for example, whole fleets of minis or VW Combis going through town if the owners’ group is […]
Ugly Buildings. Again.

There were two interesting articles in the papers today, which I will attempt to clumsily relate to each other. The first was Ashley Seager in the Guardian, arguing that we need a land tax to replace council tax and possibly allow reductions in VAT as well, and the second was in the Argus: a story […]

Double standards

I would like to give a shout out, as I believe youngsters like him would have it, to my colleague Danivon, who would easily be Crawley’s best blogger if only he would pull his finger out, stop having a full and active social life and write more. This week he has written an amusing fisk […]
