Anybody paying attention to the recent comments box to the right of this page will have seen a comment from Shirley that the plans to turn Broadfield House into flats have been submitted to the council again.Â The plans for conversion of the building and for ‘listed building concent’ (sic) were registered on October 2nd, and are likely to be decided by Jan 2nd.

As yet there are no drawings or other documents available online, so I don’t know if all my previous objections will still apply; let’s wait and see.

To answer Danivon’s question about whether the overgrown-ness at Broadfield Park is really that bad, here are two photos of the same place: the ornamental arch.Â Admittedly they are from different ends.Â The first picture was taken in April 2007 and the second was taken today.

When I first saw this I thought how great it must be for kids exploring the place.Â Even as an adult I was tempted to run through it – not something I would want to do now without serious protective clothing.

Rhododendron bashing

Ian Irvine is offering the prospect of rhodendron bashing for anyone who wants to become a friend of Broadfield Park.Â Â If I can get assurances that bashing the rhododendron is not an alternative for bashing the bishop I might join up.Â As I was passing through on the way home the other day I noticed how shabby the ornamental tree tunnel was looking.Â The middle of it is now completely full of stinging nettles: I have never seen it that bad before.

This is what it looked a like just over a year ago, in April 2007.Â I’ll see if I can pack a camera and get an up-to-date view of it.
