This morning at the station there was a wonderful combination of low clouds and high winds so the clouds were absolutely racing across the sky. It did not look real: it looked like one of the time-lapse sequences from Planet Earth.

No matter what we manage to do with all our technology, nature still manages to trump it.

When you get those big, fluffy cumulus clouds they look so substantial. Anyone who has been up in an aeroplane knows they are just like mist or fog but seen from a distance, and I can see how our ancestors might have thought otherwise, and sometimes its an effort to remind yourself how they are nothing more solid than water vapour.

Another lunchtime walk today. This time we headed East, across Westminster Bridge Rd, past the Eurotunnel lines and through Bishops Park, coming out by Lambeth Palace, and then back along the river, past County Hall and through Waterloo station. A few sights along the way…

I don't know what this building is. I just liked the strange shape of it.

You have to take one of Parliament don't you? I liked the clouds in this one.

This caught my eye. Its a concrete mooring thingy in the shape of a boat. I think.

But this was my favourite photo of the day. This is just a crop of the centre of the picture. I have the full image as a wallpaper on my computer now, which looks really neat.

I don't know why it is that I can go for a stroll past world-famous architectural wonders and always come back with pictures of grafitti.

I will freely admit to having been a bit of a swot at school. I can remember, even at primary school, reading through science books in school holidays, and taking some interest in the different types of clouds, and how they formed.

Even so, I had never heard of mammatus clouds until I came across this page by accident today. This type of cloud is not common, but it is awesome. There are only half a dozen photos of mammatus clouds on this page, but they are all stunning. If the site did not belong to a university which contains a regional climate centre I would have suspected them of being photoshopped.

Here is an example. The rest are just as impressive.
