Français pour une nuit

February 11th, 2010 · No Comments · Music

My copy of Français pour une nuit, the new Metallica concert DVD arrived today.  I haven’t watched it totally from beginning to end, but I have dipped into it and watched about half of it.  While it is a great DVD I don’t think it really does them justice, and it certainly did not bring [...]

Pub crawling

January 30th, 2010 · 3 Comments · Life, Music

I would not normally go to three pubs in a month, but today I managed three pubs in the same day!  First was the one over the road from work for a leaving do – there were a lot of them today as a result of our restructuring.  Then in the evening it was across [...]

Baionarena

January 13th, 2010 · No Comments · Life, Music

After Christmas I treated myself to a couple of things on Amazon, notionally using some xmas money from Mum (happy birthday today BTW – 70 candles!).  Unfortunately they had not quite arrived when the snow fell and so they didn’t get delivered here until today, when the postman brought a huge backlog of mail – [...]

Covered in Horsham

November 29th, 2009 · 4 Comments · Music

Jayne and I hit the town in Horsham tonight: an Italian meal, followed by a walk down to the Queens Head to see Covered playing.  We did that because Damian (AKA Pootergeek) sings with the band.  He keeps inviting me to come along to shows, but previously they have all been down on the coast.

Spock’s Missing

September 7th, 2009 · No Comments · Music

Another clip from the Leuven show.  A shame the camera doesn’t pick up the reactions of the musicians in the band while Spizz is murdering the guitar.  Love the wall of sound at 2:50 and the jump into reggae at 3:25.  It has been intersting to see the song develop over the years: when they [...]

Summer in the Greenhouse

September 7th, 2009 · No Comments · Music

I don’t think anybody filmed the 100 Club show, but this is the next best thing – the Spizzenergi Stella Artois-fuelled show in Leuven two days later.  This is their climate change song…

Spizzenergi 30th Anniversary Gig

September 4th, 2009 · No Comments · Music

Went to see Spizzenergi (again) tonight.  I’m not keen on going ‘up west’ when I have to work the next day, but it was to mark 30 years since the first Spizzenergi incarnation, and having seen them on tour back then in 1979 I thought it would be good to make the effort.
As always it [...]

Thirty years on – Spizzenergi in London

August 2nd, 2009 · No Comments · Music

I went online tonight and bought my ticket for the Spizzenergi 30th anniversary gig at the 100 Club.  I decided that it wasn’t worth the risk of just turning up because with all the publicity there is a real chance of it selling out.

Airships

June 14th, 2009 · No Comments · Music

As mentioned in a recent comment, a video for Airships by Athletico Spizz 80 has been uploaded onto Youtube.  It has some slightly ambiguous comments attached.

The description says:
The longest and most popular song wanted / requested to be included in the modern SPIZZENERGI set.
Always [...]

The end of the line

March 29th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Music

Just back from seeing Metallica at the O2 Arena.  A late return, courtesy of London Transport who closed the Jubilee line due to “essential engineering works”.  I think the only way they could have annoyed us more would be if they had announced it was closed due to unessential engineering works.
The return home was not [...]
