I have not really caught up with the last week’s news yet, but I did greatly enjoy this story from Ireland, which falls in the you-couldn’t-make-it-up category.

mileage
February 6th, 2009 · No Comments · Life
I got my car serviced and MOT’d today. Looking at the mileage numbers on this year’s certificate and last year’s I see that I somehow managed to do 3,500 miles in the year which is surprising.

No Surprises
September 18th, 2008 · 4 Comments · Life
We shouldn’t be surprised that research shows that people sending text messages while driving are not going to be driving very well. On the other hand, we should be surprised and depressed that this will be news to some people.
Go Wild In The Country

As the kids were both otherwise engaged today Jayne and I went out for a drive. The idea was just to get a change of scenery, and we ended up in Worthing. We didn’t know we were going there, we were just heading South and veering West, taking the smaller roads through places like Handcross, [...]
Driven round the bend
June 19th, 2008 · 4 Comments · Life, Technology, Work
We had our team meeting today, followed by the mystery activity that had been billed as ‘go-karting with a difference’.  The boss didn’t tell us what we were doing until the last minute, when he gave us a map to Mercedes Benz World at Brooklands, and told us that we were going to be shown [...]
Broom, broom

My own ID card

I joined the modern world today when my ID card photo driving licence arrived in the post. Since the new photo licences were introduced I have not changed name, changed address, had any endorsements added or removed,1 or had any categories added or removed. In short, there was no reason to get a new licence. [...]
The price of petrol
May 22nd, 2008 · 6 Comments · Life, Politics
I can understand the concern about the price of petrol, I can even understand why there is practically hysteria about it. What I can’t understand is why there is not similar outrage about the price of public transport and why there has not been general mass protests about that as well, or even instead.
There and back
April 21st, 2008 · No Comments · Work
I visited our Leicester site today, driving all the way there and back in one day just for a few meetings. Not great for the carbon footprint I know, but I have been in the job for a year and so far I have managed to do everything by videoconference and it was about time [...]

Stalled
April 11th, 2008 · No Comments · Life
This afternoon we were coming out of the multi-storey car park and there was a bit of a queue. It turned out to be that somebody had stalled their car. I’m sure we have all managed to stall a car on a steep ramp1 but not when going downhill. I’m not sure I could do [...]
