X-Files Bargain

January 30th, 2008 · 1 Comment

The other day I found something which is brilliant news for anyone in the unlikely position of really liking the X-Files but not owning any of them on DVD - a box set of all nine seasons, plus the feature film, for £71.97 on Amazon.

Oxygene

I was a little tempted to buy the Mail on Sunday today for the free CD of Oxygene because I thought I only had it on an old cassette.

Die Hard 4.0

January 15th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Last night Jayne and I unwound by watching Die Hard 4.01 on DVD.  The plot is quite easy to explain - its the same as the first three films.
or Live Free Die Hard as it was called in the US [↩]

Sound and vision

January 10th, 2008 · 4 Comments

My DVD player is playing up a little bit.  Sometimes it says “no disc” when there is one. No problem: eject and re-insert and it works fine.  Probably just needs the DVD equivalent of a head cleaner, but it got me thinking.

Mano Negra - disc two

November 14th, 2007 · No Comments

I had a look at the second disc in the Mano Negra 'Out of Time' DVD set this evening, and its not quite as good as the first one.  It has a lot of good stuff but unlike the first disc there is a lot which is not so great.
There are two main features, or […]

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom

November 5th, 2007 · 4 Comments

I am happy to admit that I have been a stranger to Bollywood films. I only sought this one out because it was largely filmed at Waterloo Station. I was going into work one weekend last year and the place was full of cameras being packed up. I was told that there […]

Charlie Jade

November 3rd, 2007 · No Comments

Another freebie from Amazon. This time a DVD boxset of a new science fiction TV show. Well, not exactly new, but new to the UK. It is a South African/Canadian joint production which is unusual for a start.
I approached this with an open mind, having never heard of it before. As […]

The Last King of Scotland

May 31st, 2007 · 2 Comments

We rented this film over the weekend.
Despite having read the book a couple of years ago, I had my reservations about whether it would make a good film, being a little concerned that ‘worthy’ films don’t always make for good entertainment.
I now realise I was being a fool. The film is brilliant and Forrest Whittaker […]

I know what I like (in your wardrobe)

May 24th, 2007 · 3 Comments

My newly-remastered SACD of A Trick of the Tail arrived today.  Bad timing really as the UAF meeting did not give me much time to appreciate it.  I don't think I will really be able to give it a good listen until tomorrow afternoon when Jayne is running people up to the hospital, leaving me […]

Surrounded by Genesis

May 16th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Unfortunately I can't really justify forking out £88.98 on this Genesis Box Set of 12 discs, but it is tempting.  It has the albums A Trick of the Tail, Wind & Wuthering, And The There Were Three…, Duke, and Abacab on hybrid SACD with 5.1 sound, the same albums on DVD with live footage, interviews […]
