Want an iPhone for Christmas but can’t really afford the huge monthly charges? Well here is something that is a lot cheaper and yet still reassuringly overpriced for what it actually is while being strangely desirable despite everything. Easier to use than a real iPhone as well!

More ISO than you can shake a stick at
October 15th, 2009 · No Comments · Technology
Nikon’s new camera, the D3S (to come out next month) is reported to be capable of an ISO of 102,400.
I don’t know a lot about the technicalities of cameras, but that sounds a little excessive to me. My camera does about 1600 ISO.
Not sure what you would do with that, and at $5200 I am [...]
Any colour you like
September 9th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Life
About five or six years ago televisions were all silver – or at least silver coloured. Likewise all the peripherals were nearly all silver-coloured – the DVD players, video recorders (they were still on sale then), surround amplifiers and so on. (By the way, in case nobody noticed, this is one of those boring idle [...]
Wow. Just like Torchwood
September 1st, 2009 · No Comments · Technology
One of the bits of Torchwood that I found less credible (and there was a lot to choose from) was those contact lenses – the ones that work as a camera, transmitting pictures back to base and letting base send text messages back to the wearer. No part of it seemed feasible, but now it [...]

Spotify stuff
August 27th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Life, Technology
I see that the Spotify app for the iPhone has been approved by Apple’s App Store. Less than a month after I decided, when getting a new phone, that there was nothing about the iPhone to make me want it. Never mind.
This evening I have been listening to some stuff from the recent enormous upload [...]
Goodbye to CDs
August 8th, 2009 · 3 Comments · Life, Music, Technology
I am finding it hard to move in the living room because of all the accumulated junk and I am thinking of taking the radical step of boxing up all my CDs and putting them in the attic. I realised the other day that I don’t actually play CDs very often now, although I now [...]
New phone
July 27th, 2009 · No Comments · Technology
I gave in today and got a new mobile phone. I don’t really use the mobile much: I don’t make many calls and certainly don’t receive many, but it was getting a little frustrating that I was missing what calls and texts I was receiving because the old phone didn’t make a noise.
To be fair, [...]

Jammy
July 16th, 2009 · No Comments · Life
I have been getting free stuff from Amazon through their Vine Programme for a while now. In that time I have had quite a few books to review, some CDs, DVDs and software and even a couple of hairdriers, but this month I really hit the jackpot, to the extent that I am almost jealous [...]
Walkman
June 30th, 2009 · No Comments · Music, Technology
The BBC made a 13-year-old swap his ipod for an original Sony Walkman for a week and then asked him what he thought. What he said, and I am paraphrasing here, is: “Skuds – you are so old! How did you ever get by with one of these?” Well that’s how I interpreted it anyway.
Micro four thirds
June 1st, 2009 · No Comments · Technology
As it happens I am quite happy with my combination of a Canon EOS 1000D for normal use and a Canon Powershot 590 for when I really can’t carry a DSLR around and as both are less than 6 months old I don’t intend to be in the market for a new camera in the [...]
