The Silver Triffid of Horsham

November 1st, 2009 · Comments Off on The Silver Triffid of Horsham · Life

On Saturday morning I took advantage of that short window of opportunity between the sun coming up and the rain coming down to take a few photos in and around the park.  I particularly wanted to see the new sculpture outside the Pavilions: Light Tree by Steve Geliot. It looks OK to me, although it […]

If at first you don’t succeed, get up early

October 31st, 2009 · Comments Off on If at first you don’t succeed, get up early · Politics

Following my failed previous efforts to support the striking Royal Mail workers I took the rather drastic and extreme step of getting up before 6am on a Saturday. This ludicrous tactic worked and I met with the workers who were manning the picket line.  They did mention how several other members of Horsham Labour Party […]

Like a pear cider made from 100% pear

October 31st, 2009 · Comments Off on Like a pear cider made from 100% pear · Life

Had a good evening out in Horsham today, seeing Stewart Lee in his show “If you prefer a milder comedian please ask for one”.   I needed cheering up after a frankly disappointing Chinese meal. Very surprised to find that there was a support act.  Even more surprised to find that it was a German stand-up.  […]

The Capitol – also better than the O2?

August 6th, 2009 · Comments Off on The Capitol – also better than the O2? · Life

Oh ye of little faith

July 29th, 2009 · Comments Off on Oh ye of little faith · Life

There is something wrong here.  It says: CHURCHES in the Horsham district have suspended part of the Holy Communion ritual due to fears over spreading swine flu. Hmm.   Isn’t the whole point of religion that it is irrational,  so that it is only possible to believe of you make huge leaps of faith?   Maybe the […]

Pushing for 40%

July 13th, 2009 · Comments Off on Pushing for 40% · Politics

On Saturday not only was I up before 10am but I was out and about: in Broadbridge Heath to be precise.  I met up with some colleagues from Horsham Labour Party to go knocking on doors.   For a change we were not asknig anybody to vote for us, but just to support us in one […]

War wounds

May 29th, 2009 · Comments Off on War wounds · Politics

After work today I spent a good 90 minutes delivering my county election leaflets in Roffey.  Well…  actually I went for a spot of late breakfast first, then had a little nap until it was a bit cooler outside. We have been quite ambitious and active in these elections in Horsham, leaving me feeling a […]

MP expenses – the local perspective

May 11th, 2009 · 4 Comments · Politics

The Horsham local paper had an interesting approach to the whole business of MP expenses last week.   While the May 1st edition was full to bursting with letters criticising local MP, Francis Maude, the May 8th edition carried none and had this slightly strange editorial.
