I am sure I have already railed against the modern fashion for choice. Probably about how we sometimes seem to be more concerned that the education and health systems offer choice than about about making them so universally good that choices are pointless. Or about how as individuals we are either bad at making choices […]

A Different Point Of View

The other day, as I watched the end of David Gilmour’s concert in Gdansk, I was ridiculously amused by Gilmour’s comments to the crowd at the end.

Thank You For The Music

Thanks Mum! You didn’t know it, but you gave me the new David Gilmour Live in Gdansk CD/DVD set for my birthday. I went into HMV straight after banking the cheque. While I was there I also treated myself to Death Magnetic.

Remember a Day
September 28th, 2008 · 3 Comments · Music
Friday night was David Gilmour Night on BBC Four, and Gilmour also appeared on Later the same night. I should have been like the proverbial pig in shit, but somehow the timing of it, with Richard Wright so recently dead, sucked a lot of the enjoyment out of it all.

Talk To Ya Later

There has been a dramatic surge in traffic here over the last day or two. A quick check on the logs of incoming links shows that most of the new faces came here via http://www.bbc.co.uk/later/ and a quick look there shows that they have a little section on there now with links to blogs about […]

Great Gig In The Sky

Far more upsetting than the piddling matter of a web server being unavailable was the sad news of Richard Wright’s death.  I guess that settles all the speculation about the Floyd ever playing again.

Something is bothering me about the current advert for Direct Line home insurance. There is slow-motion film of water cascading over furniture and a soundtrack with lots of cymbals and organ under-pinned by a strong bass. Isn’t it just a bit reminiscent of the exploding house scene in Antonioni’s Zabriskie Point?

Old Bangers

Today was the 110th London to Brighton veteran car run. The cars set off from Hyde Park in the morning and head off for the coast. Traditionally they stop off in Crawley High Street as it is more or less the halfway point, and it provides an interesting spectacle for the town. In past years […]

Feel the pulse
August 19th, 2006 · 5 Comments · Music
Jayne has bought me the Pink Floyd Pulse DVD as a wedding anniversary present (5 years!). It might not sound romantic, but it is something I desperately wanted after the debacle of the release date being put off for almost a year. No time to sit down and watch all 4 hours of stuff on […]

Another false alarm?
June 28th, 2006 · 3 Comments · Music
The Q magazine published today has a full-page advert for the DVD of Pulse – the 1994 Pink Floyd concert: the one which was supposed to be out last October, which slipped to december, then January, then November 2006. I just checked on Amazon and they have a revised release date of July 10th 2006. […]
