Jayne and I went to a fund-raising quiz at Crawley Labour Club last night. We formed a team with the chairs of Horsham and Crawley CLPs. My recent track record on quizzes has not been brilliant; a long string of second places is what it feels like.

More quiziness: Feb 16th & 2010
February 22nd, 2011 · 2 Comments · Life
A few more questions from last week’s quiz. One set are all about Feb 16th (the date of the quiz) and another set are all about last year. The quiz was originally scheduled for Jan 19th when 2010 would have been fresher in the memory. I had to scrap my set of questions based on [...]

Picture quiz
February 18th, 2011 · 4 Comments · Life
In response to Peter, I’ll post a few questions, starting with a few that you can’t Google anyway. Quizzes often have picture rounds, and it is really easy to get pictures of anything you want in the internet age and the invention of Google Image Search. Of course going on an image search can get [...]
The quiz from hell
February 17th, 2011 · 5 Comments · Life, Politics
Tonight’s quiz could have gone worse, but it could have gone better too, and having a depressing self-critical streak I know where I went wrong. I think the questions were better suited to an event where they could be given time. A lot were ones you probably wouldn’t know, but could have a good guess [...]
Quiz subversion

I’m putting the finishing touches to questions for the quiz on Wednesday night (fundraising for Horsham Labour – sold out but could maybe squeeze another body or two in). I had a couple of brilliant ideas, which I am not going to incorporate in case they caused major civil unrest and/or ideological splits.

Being sociable
November 21st, 2010 · No Comments · Life, Work
It is not that I am unsociable or anti-social, but as time goes on I do admit that I am more and more content with my own company. I am happy enough to go out with friends but I don’t feel bad if I am spending a night in – and now that I have [...]
Pub quiz emergency
May 4th, 2010 · 2 Comments · Life
Got a phone call at about 9pm from a work colleague inviting me to a pub quiz that was starting in ‘about 5 minutes’.  I thought it was another of the Alpha course quizzes, which I normally go to with him, but it turned out to be just a normal pub one. He had gone [...]

Spizzenergi t-shirts get you noticed
September 24th, 2009 · No Comments · Life, Music
I went to a quiz night tonight, in aid of the Alpha people, which is a strange thing for an atheist to do I suppose, but they are nice people and I do enjoy a quiz. I was wearing my 25th anniversary Spizzenergi t-shirt – the one that says “1979-2004″ on it so it looks [...]

Non-starter for ten
March 31st, 2009 · No Comments · Life
I had been looking forward to back-to-back pub quizzes this week. Tomorrow there is a charity quiz at work, and tonight I was expecting the monthly quiz at Broadbridge Heath Village Centre, but it was not to be.

Cash for questions
January 27th, 2009 · No Comments · Life
After a couple of disappointing months, Horsham Labour party were back on top in the village quiz tonight, boosting the coffers by fifty quid. That should pay for a few leaflets. Talking of quizzes, I really felt for Exeter in yesterday’s University Challenge with their haul of a mere 15 points. I only watched the [...]
