The price of petrol
May 22nd, 2008 · 6 Comments · Life, Politics
I can understand the concern about the price of petrol, I can even understand why there is practically hysteria about it. What I can’t understand is why there is not similar outrage about the price of public transport and why there has not been general mass protests about that as well, or even instead.
The longest day

It has been a long day today, and it feels even longer.  I was staying overnight in Versailles so I could go to a meeting this morning and I got up extra early so I could go out and take some photos in the town before breakfast.  As it happens I was up before the […]
Two totally unconnected stories
April 10th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Life
It was with some dismay that I came across a story in my newspaper today about pub closures. Not that I am much of a pub-goer these days but, the story was illustrated by a photo of one of the pubs I particularly enjoyed when I did visit them more often – the Intrepid Fox […]

The word "ironic" is overused as often as it is misused, so it was refreshing to see someone today give a perfect demonstration of when the word should be used correctly. I went up to London to meet up with some ex-colleagues to celebrate one of them turning 40. The birthday boy turned up fashionably […]

On Tuesday one of my colleagues was telling us over lunch about how he used to be a train driver. We were all a bit surprised and thought he was winding us up, but eventually we believed him. He said that he finally left the job after the third time he had someone throw themselves […]
Choo choo

I am looking forward to tomorrow. I am going up to London on the train. While it was a pain in the neck to have to travel up there every day to work for years, it should be different doing it for pleasure. Some ex-colleagues from London Underground are having a joint birthday celebration in […]
