Compare and contrast

June 6th, 2008 · Comments Off on Compare and contrast · Politics

Theyworkforyou.com is a handy site for keeping an eye on what your MP is up to. I like to keep abreast of what my MP is doing and what the neighbouring constituency MP is doing. Yesterday it showed me their respective contributions:

The price of petrol

May 22nd, 2008 · 6 Comments · Life, Politics

I can understand the concern about the price of petrol, I can even understand why there is practically hysteria about it. What I can’t understand is why there is not similar outrage about the price of public transport and why there has not been general mass protests about that as well, or even instead.

The longest day

May 15th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Life, Work

It has been a long day today, and it feels even longer.   I was staying overnight in Versailles so I could go to a meeting this morning and I got up extra early so I could go out and take some photos in the town before breakfast.   As it happens I was up before the […]

Two totally unconnected stories

April 10th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Life

It was with some dismay that I came across a story in my newspaper today about pub closures. Not that I am much of a pub-goer these days but, the story was illustrated by a photo of one of the pubs I particularly enjoyed when I did visit them more often – the Intrepid Fox […]

Grand day out

January 24th, 2008 · 5 Comments · Life

I had the opportunity of getting some proper professional photos done by a Labour party photographer up in Westminster and decided to take up the offer and use it as an excuse to do a bit of tourism at the same time.

All aboard the Tex Express!

November 14th, 2007 · 2 Comments · Politics

According to the Argus “A councillor has won a battle to secure better public transport links between West Sussex and the new Eurostar station in London.” Well done to him… except he hasn’t. On Friday night I was up in London for some drinks with a gang of old work colleagues from London Underground. I was asking some of those who still work for LU, LT or TfL what they think about the prospect of having Boris Johnson as their ultimate boss instead of Ken. One thought it […]

Party time

August 25th, 2007 · Comments Off on Party time · Work

The word "ironic" is overused as often as it is misused, so it was refreshing to see someone today give a perfect demonstration of when the word should be used correctly. I went up to London to meet up with some ex-colleagues to celebrate one of them turning 40.  The birthday boy turned up fashionably […]

One under

August 16th, 2007 · Comments Off on One under · Work

On Tuesday one of my colleagues was telling us over lunch about how he used to be a train driver. We were all a bit surprised and thought he was winding us up, but eventually we believed him. He said that he finally left the job after the third time he had someone throw themselves […]

Choo choo

May 25th, 2007 · 2 Comments · Work

I am looking forward to tomorrow.  I am going up to London on the train. While it was a pain in the neck to have to travel up there every day to work for years, it should be different doing it for pleasure.  Some ex-colleagues from London Underground are having a joint birthday celebration in […]
