This is not my question, but one asked on the front page of a free newspaper called Heart of West Sussex. The paper is a christian paper distributed around churches. Piles of the paper are left in the public areas of the Broadfield Community Centre.

Proof that targeted advertising works?
November 16th, 2009 · Comments Off on Proof that targeted advertising works? · Music, Politics, Technology
I have heard a lot about Eric Pickles putting adverts onto Spotify to promote the Tory party and I listen to a lot of music on Spotify, but I have not heard the Pickles ad at all. What I have heard many times is the Spotify advert aimed at advertisers, boasting about how they target […]
More Tory climate change denial
November 4th, 2009 · 5 Comments · Politics
Last week there was an interesting post at Next Left about the attitudes of prominent Tory bloggers to climate change. One of our local newspapers this week has a column to show that it is not just prominent Tories who hold suspect opinions on the topic: even the obscure ones are joining in the chorus.

Unite’s reaction to the Tory conference
October 9th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Politics
More specifically, Unite’s reaction to the proposals to cut 25% of the MoD budget. As somebody who works in the aerospace & shipbuilding sector covered by Bernie Hamilton I have more than a passing interest in this.

Politicising the forces
October 8th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Politics
I hope I’m not the only one to be more than a little uneasy about the Tories politicising the army?  We have had civil servants passing confidential documents to the opposition for political capital, Boris has already been hard at work politicising the Met – and anybody who was on a CND or anti-apartheid march […]

Interesting situation with this video by Don’t Panic. It was on Youtube, but was taken down when Conservative Future claimed there was some sort of copyright infringement. I’m no expert on IPR but it seems OK to me: various members of the Cameron Youth were interviewed, and the interviews were put online – how can […]
Scary book

I’m still reading When The Lights Went Out – Britain in the Seventies.  It is all about events thirty years ago, but has some very topical echoes, especially on the very scary page 413…
3 days to save the minimum wage
May 12th, 2009 · 32 Comments · Politics
There is a lot of talk about the forthcoming attempt by Christopher Chope (described as a senior Tory – don’t know if he is a ‘grandee’ though) to effectively abolish the national minimum wage, just when it has been announced that the minimum wage is due to increase to a princely £5.80 an hour.

Collecting houses and jobs

The latest revelations about Francis Maude’s financial arrangements helped to remind me just why it is that I am standing against him – not so that I can pick up several directorships and some extra property instead, but because it is just plain wrong.
Work for peanuts

Apparently a group of Tory MPs are gathered in support of Christopher Chope’s 10 minute rule bill to, effectively, abolish the minimum wage. I find this absolutely breathtaking. It is wrapped up in some euphemism about ‘increasing employment opportunities’, but it boils down to allowing employers to pay as little as they can get away […]
