Personally I don’t (currently) have a problem with my broadband at home and I’m quite happy with it so I don’t have an axe to grind here… but… I did find this interview quite amusing. I don’t know what job Mr. Ahmad does for Virgin Media but I suspect and hope it is on the [...]

More temptation

I got a letter from Virgin Media yesterday, telling me that 50Mb broadband is now available here… very tempting. That is starting to get respectable – but still there is the frustration that the upstream speed is only 1.5Mb. (As somebody who remembers feeling dizzy when v.32bis came out I feel slightly odd saying “only [...]

Baby got back

Virgin managed to restore our broadband remotely this afternoon: no need to wait for an engineer with a new modem to turn up on Wednesday. Good news indeed, because now I won’t have the rest of the family asking every ten minutes. They have all been suffering from World of Warfare withdrawal.

If anybody has been sending me e-mails and expecting a reply… forget about it.
We have now been without internet access at home for 5 days, and do not expect to get it back for another couple of days. When it does come back it is going to take quite a while to go through the [...]

I am starting to see the appeal of this whole concept of cloud computing. On Saturday I bought a replacement PC. The old one is one that I bought a couple of years ago when the motherboard of the previous computer blew up, and it was basically the cheapest base unit I could get in [...]

There [...]
Virgin Media – good news

I have moaned a lot about the premium rate number for broadband technical support at Virgin Media. It was very unfair that it should cost money to report a fault on broadband, but not on television or telephone services, and now it looks like even Virgin agree with me

Begrudging praise for Virgin Media

If it was not good that Virgin Media’s e-mail telling me how they were going to increase my bandwidth for free came after several days of no e-mail, it was even worse that a day or two later we had no connection at all.

My broadband was playing up a bit last night. I could access some sites OK (Amazon, Flickr) but not others (BBC, Skuds.org).

First of all there is the letter.
My sister had a very unsatisfactory phone conversation with Virgin Media’s customer services when she was trying to get Dad’s telephone and cable TV cancelled after he died. In a fit of pique she wrote a 5-page explaining exactly what the circumstances were, why the customer couldn’t give [...]
