Total warfare

That Holland v Portugal game made the USA/Italy game look tame, with something like 16 yellow cards and 4 players sent off. Ugly perhaps, but in the last 5 minutes I was rather hoping Holland would score so we could have another 30 minutes to further whittle down our opponents for next weekend. As it […]

Only banana in Ghana?

June 23rd, 2006 · 1 Comment · Life

They won’t be doing the pogo in Togo, and it will still be Coca-Cola in Angola, but I’m willing to bet there will be a lot more than banana being consumed in Ghana tonight after they got through to the second round of the World Cup! While I am slightly tempted to dig out my […]

Germany 2006 from a Hammers perspective

June 19th, 2006 · Comments Off on Germany 2006 from a Hammers perspective · Life

Most supporters of English teams in the premier & championship will have a few of their current players and old boys to keep an eye out for in Germany. West Ham supporters can watch England play and wonder how we would have done if we could have hung onto Joe Cole, Rio, Lampard and Carrick, […]

World cup coincidence

June 18th, 2006 · 4 Comments · Life

So far 5 out of the 8 groups have played four games each with two to go. In all 5 groups the remaining games are between the two top teams and the two bottom teams. Spooky. For the trend to continue Brazil will have to stuff Australia while Croatia beat Japan. Not impossible.

Sometimes you see something in the news which makes you realise that truth really is stranger than fiction… You just couldn’t make it up! Expect a lot of this over here in 2012.

Initial thoughts on the World Cup

June 11th, 2006 · Comments Off on Initial thoughts on the World Cup · Life

After 3 minutes of the England game it felt like we were on top. After 10 minutes we looked so in control I was hoping we would not embarrass Paraguay too much by putting half a dozen past them. At the end of the game we had a rare opening game victory but it just […]

Testing 442

June 11th, 2006 · Comments Off on Testing 442 · Music

Lets see if this works… Hmmm… Seems to work OK, but what a lot of hoops to jump through! I had to deactivate the WYSIWYG editing plugin AND create the post in Internet Explorer – for some reason it would not work properly in Firefox. I think I shall push my luck and try to […]

4-4-2 OK

June 10th, 2006 · Comments Off on 4-4-2 OK · Music

This video is even more topical after today’s unfortunate experience with 4-4-1-1 (What was Sven playing at? Between his substitutions and the Mexican ref’s bizarre decisions we were lucky to get a result.) What I want to know is why I can’t just post the code from YouTube to embed the video on here… it […]

We Are The England

June 4th, 2006 · 1 Comment · Music

I can't work out how to embed a YouTube video in WordPress, so I shall have to make do with an old-fashioned link to the video for We Are The England – the 2006 World Cup song by Spizzenergi. Do have a look: its a very catchy song. The video has been online for a […]

Nationality and football

May 18th, 2006 · Comments Off on Nationality and football · Life

I went to the public AGM for the Broadfield Community Centre this evening, so I only caught the second half of the Champions League final, where the plucky English underdogs who only had two Englishmen in the team were beaten by the Spanish team with only two Spaniards in the team. I think there is […]
