I am trying to resist the temptation to write about the weather, but really nothing much else is happening here. Today I decided to spend the day at home reviewing a huge pile of HR policies instead of walking either one mile or five miles to work (depending on whether the buses are running). I [...]

Steepest road in Crawley?
December 19th, 2009 · No Comments · Life
A chap in Hobbs Road is in the local paper complaining about the lack of a gritting bin in his road. Having had my own simlar experiences discussin grit bins with West Sussex council I have a lot of sympathy for him, but where I have to disagree is when he says it is the [...]
Abandoned and let down by West Sussex county council
December 12th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Life
What am I going to do? How am I going to learn how to use my mobile phone now? WSCC went to all the trouble and expense of producing a (presumably) excellent video tutorial on how to make a phone call, but before I get a chance to watch it they take it down! (According [...]

Or is it just that the council thinks they are? Not my question but one, apparently, posed by Iain Dale. Full details where I found out about it on Owen’s new blog.

For the last few weeks everything has been a bit hectic. Work has been busier and the hours a bit longer, while I have been out more, and consequently I have not been paying too much attention to the news. I have still been buying a paper, but only skimming through it in the evening. [...]
Sugar Coated Iceberg

Why was it no great surprise to find out that West Sussex county council have some money tied up in Icelandic banks? The council say that this will not have an impact on frontline services, and play down the significance in several ways: it is not in an Icelandic bank but in the UK arm [...]
Peace Sells…

…but who’s buying? As the old Megadeth song goes. The question is, should we be making an issue of the fact that West Sussex county council’s pension fund invests in arms firms, including Haliburton?
