Today the BBC website has a story of police idiocy on a par with when the Irish police had Prawo Jazdy at the top of their most-wanted list.

Basically, the police an address more than 40 times in 18 months by mistake. It seems they were getting calls to a house in Repton Grove but kept going to a house in Repton Road instead. It makes you wonder what is going on at the house in Repton Grove to lead to 40 calls in 18 months doesn’t it?  And that is only assuming the police always go to the wrong address. If they only get it wrong half the time there would be 80 calls in 18 months – about one a week.

Highlight of the story is this quote:

When my girlfriend rang Police HQ at Lloyd House the gaffer there said he knew all about it because they had seminars about not getting it wrong.

A whole seminar about telling the difference between one road and another? How long can you spin that out?

I hope somebody had an interview a bit like this one…

Let me say straight off that I enjoy Elmer Food Beat enormously, and was overjoyed to see that they returned to the stage in recent years even if it was just to relive past glories rather then produce anything new. All I will say is that perhaps the singer might have considered not wearing the outfit that was so iconic in the late 80′s/early 90′s.

I know. If you go to see AC/DC you expect to see the wee Jimmy Krankie outfit on Angus Young and if she is still performing in her 70s you will expect to see Madonna in a leotard, even if you wouldn;t actively look forward to it but I think ther Elmers’ singer should have dropped the white shorts/vest image before 2009. MInd you, and I’ll say it before anybody else does, he still looks better than I would in such an outfit.

Not sure what I am talking about? Here are a couple of clips: a video from about 1990 and live footage from 2009, both featuring the same song. Talking of which, what a great song! Mind you, it does help if you don’t translate it… French is such a seductive language, even when the lyrics are on the level of a Carry On film co-written by Viz magazine.

I know it is old news, but only just heard about George Osborne allegedly getting voice coaching to sound less posh and weedy from a radio show on Saturday that I just listened to as a podcast. If it is true (and the story is in the Daily Mail which immediately makes it a bit suspect) he should ask for his money back.

I heard him speak on the TV news just the other day. At the time I realised that I had not really heard him before, or maybe just never really paid attention. The thing is, while listening to him the voice really reminded me of someone and I couldn’t quite place it. Then it came to me – Piers Fletcher Dervish!

A reminder of the real thing in the form of a compilation of all Piers’ “oh dear” moments.

My Flip arrived today – the new 8GB HD model, and very nice it is too. It is willfully bereft of features as it is based on the design concept of just doing one thing, doing it well and making it easy for you to make it do that thing. I had read good things about the earlier model in the book Simple & Usable Web, Mobile and Interaction Design without suspecting that I would get my hands on one within a month.

I’m lucky to have it actually – I had to come home at lunchtime to let an electrician in and found that Royal Mail had left it outside the house – £150 worth of toy just sitting there for anybody to snatch. Without no trouble at all I took a quick test video of each cat, uploaded them both the Facebook, and uploaded one to Youtube.

I’ll be writing a full review soon, but for now here is a hastily-shot film of Diego.

This is supposed to be art – a sculpture that can turn into a gun, which would appear to owe a lot of inspiration to a certain James Bond film – but it could be the answer to gun crime. Just tweak the US constitution so that the right to bear arms means you can carry a gun, but it has to be one of these.

Or is it just one more thing for airport security to look out for? Will they be confiscating Rubiks Cubes just in case?

Imagine the shoot-out in High Noon if both of them had one of these. It would be like a particularly high-stakes round of the Krypton Factor.
