Best of British

February 8th, 2010 · 2 Comments · Music

Even now, with only two survivors who are both past their prime, the Who can still pull off a spectacular show.   The memory of seeing the bloody terrible Las Vegas concert on TV recently was still fresh so I was half-expecting a bit of car crash TV, but the Superbowl half-time show was magnificent.

Kidjo and Carlos

January 18th, 2010 · Comments Off on Kidjo and Carlos · Music

Two of my favourites together on stage: Carlos Santana and Angelique Kidjo   When Jayne treated me to Santana tickets for my birthday (quite a long time ago) Angelique Kidjo joined him for this song – which she wrote and he covered on his Shamen album.   It made my day then, and finding this clip […]

Vive la difference

Well I’ll go to the foot of our stairs

December 14th, 2009 · Comments Off on Well I’ll go to the foot of our stairs · Music

Abandoned and let down by West Sussex county council

December 12th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Life

What am I going to do?  How am I going to learn how to use my mobile phone now?  WSCC went to all the trouble and expense of producing a (presumably) excellent video tutorial on how to make a phone call, but before I get a chance to watch it they take it down! (According […]

Must be Santa

November 28th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Music

This is Bob Dylan’s new one – a Christmas song.  I hated it within two seconds, but then it started growing on me and by the end I thought it was brilliant and the best Christmas song since the Pogues.   Is it Christmassy though?  Sounds like the music from a Jewish wedding to me. Unfortunately […]

Drums – an excuse for some gratuitous Shakira

November 23rd, 2009 · Comments Off on Drums – an excuse for some gratuitous Shakira · Music

I will be amazed if I have not already mentioned here how partial I am to drums.  Not so much drum solos (though I am quite fond of them) but bands who have several drummers or percussionists in their line-up.  Imagine then, how chuffed I was seeing the Decemberists on Later last week with most […]
