No Sleep Till Brooklyn

I am going to have to go to bed, but I really don’t want to.  I have the TV tuned into this Africa Express concert in Camden and so far it is brilliant.  I would love to carry on watching it but I do have to go to work in the morning and the show is likely to go on until at least four or five in the morning.  I’m sure it will be available on the red button or on iPlayer for a while, in fact I am counting on it.

The show kicked off with Baaba Maal doing a few songs, joined by a wide variety of guests all jamming along, and just now Hard-Fi finished a short set which started with them doing the old Cure song Killing An Arab accompanied by half of Rachid Taha’s band and ended up with Galvanise complete with Amadou adding some blistering guitar work.

Best of all, there is none of that Live 8 cobblers where it takes 20 minutes set the stage between performers: they can clear the stage of twenty or so people and have another lot playing within a minute or two.  It does help when everybody is willing to use the same drum kit, piano, etc.

The next time one of these shows comes along I am tempted to get tickets and take the next day off work.
