Looking at the Premier League fixtures for the next few weeks, I noticed that the game between Newcastle and Sunderland that was due to be played on Monday Feb 2nd has been postponed. It will now be played on Sunday 1st Feb and I am confused. Surely ‘postponed’ means to be put back until a later date?
All of which got me wondering: is there a single word for bringing something forward as there is for putting something back? An opposite to ‘postponed’ if you like. ‘Preponed’ or ‘anteponed’ don’t sound right.
Gramatically, “prepone” should be correct, but it’s not in the dictionary.
One would usually say “advance”…
Ah. Advance. Yes. I feel a bit like this bloke – so busy looking for the complicated answer he totally forgets the obvious.
