Long journey home

February 23rd, 2005 · Posted by Skuds in Work · No Comments · Work

It took nearly two and a half hours to get home from work today! I caught a train from Waterloo to Clapham Junction and when I went to cross over to the next platform to catch my train onwards I was told that the station was closing and no trains were stopping. This was because of a power failure which left the station with no lights, or anything else, and at Britains busiest railway station the passengers were outnumbered by policemen and station staff.

All the trains were still running, they were just not stopping there, so I couldn’t even get back to Waterloo and start again going by the other route from London Bridge. I had to go outside and wait for a 239 bus to Victoria, which is a half hour journey. In the end I caught a train at Victoria about ten minutes later than I would normally be reaching my front door.

Obviously I was not happy, especially as I had a meeting to go to at 7pm at the Community Centre. I just had time for a quarter of a cup of tea before going out again. To make matters worse, it was our girl’s birthday and I had bought her an MP3 player. I had intended to show her how to use it and how to get her CDs onto it, but that will have to wait for tomorrow.

In the meantime, I have put some of my music on it and will take it to work tomorrow to show the boys at work.

The good news was that West Ham managed to win away from home and are now well-placed in the play-off zone. The few Conference games played tonight meant that Crawley dropped a place, going behind Accrington Stanley on goal difference, but it could have been worse as most of the teams playing one of their games in hand over us did not make the most of it.
