Propaganda

Yesterday saw more political junk mail delvered to the house. First of all was a letter from Crawley’s village idiot which was just a letter from Henry on one side of A4, with a questionnaire on the reverse.

Half the letter seems to be complaining about education, and the other half is crowing about how good the schools provision is in Crawley thanks to the Tory county council. Make your mind up Henry! And while you are at it, when you boast about the £80 million spent on new schools in the town, why not mention that the money came from a Labour government? Did that slip your mind?

Actually, after reading the letter I have some concerns about education myself, and have decided that whoever wrote the letter really needs some themselves – it is full of poor grammar, punctuation and proof-reading. My favourite is “…I welcome the Conservative’s policy…” but then you would have to expect a party of grocers to not really have the hang of apostrophes wouldn’t you?

The other communication I received was a DVD from the Labour party. OK, so its all propaganda, but at least its our propaganda! I think that the party have got themselves well-organised with this one, and have learnt how to use technology at last. It is not over-ambitious, but is simple and effective. Alongside this is a website called proudofcrawley.org.uk which is also simple but effective.

The DVD has a short film, presented by our MP, leading to a main menu with options to watch other short films on particular subjects. On a ‘wired’ PC you can also link from the DVD to the website. The website itself is clear and uncluttered, with an option to respond with what make you proud of Crawley.

I don’t know how well-received it will all be, but it will probably get watched more than a TV election broadcast is. If nothing else, its a morale-booster for party members like myself.

The only downside of all this is that I have a huge box of DVDs to be delivered locally. Time for the kids to earn some pocket money?
