For ages we have all been referring to the country Niger as ‘nigh-jer’ and then all of a sudden the BBC started calling it ‘knee-jair’. It sounded wrong because its not what we are used to, but were we just using the ‘nigh-jer’ pronunciation because we were just abbreviating Nigeria?
Replace the N with a T and you have Tiger, which is pronounced in a totally different way.
I’m glad I don’t have to teach English as a foreign language!

Not that anyone reads all this stuff at the bottom anyway, not when there is more exciting stuff to do like watching paint dry...
