This site has a nifty flash presentation of Reuters’ 40 pictures of the year, which is worth a look.
This photo of Eric Carriere taking a football to the head during a UEFA cup first round game is one I had not seen before.
As a collection of pictures, it is quite depressing, with so many photos of death, suffering, natural disasters, protests and Courtney Love, with very few which could be said to be uplifting – so don’t go there looking to be cheered up!

There is always going to be some idiot who takes it all seriously. No names - you know who you are. Not that anyone reads all this stuff at the bottom anyway, not when there is more exciting stuff to do like watching paint dry...
