Helping the press?

I think I was possibly less than helpful when the Crawley Observer called today…

They wanted to know if they could use my photo of the tiny cycle path. I don’t mind anyone using my photos – they are all on Flickr with a creative commons license – so I told them that. I left it to them to work out how to download a picture from there and to read the terms of the CC license.

Then they wanted to know if I had a quote to go with it. Why bother? I don’t even cycle much now, so I am hardly representative of the cycling public. Whenever I have cycled I have never used a cycle path if there is a road available – I pay my road tax too! I just thought it was funny and made a good picture, I don’t have a bee in the bonnet about it.

I suppose I should be thankful they chose to pick up on that particular post and not the earlier Prince Albert-related one…

However, if they still want to find newsworthy stuff on the Internet, they could do worse than look at this photo on Flickr and the story behind it – its another example of either greedy developers or, at the most charitable, careless developers whose carelessness just happens to be convenient for their profits.

I have never yet met any “careless developers”. They know exactly what they are doing…and rely on an impotent council who can do very little, and an apathetic public who do ‘sweet fa’.

I have only met “greedy developers”, and they are often given an unofficial official green light from ‘partners’ to do exactly as they please.
