Free CD

If there is anyone out there who likes Genesis but does not have A Trick of the Tail on CD I have a copy which I will send to the first commenter who wants it (make sure there is a valid email so I can get a postal address off you)

If there is such a creature, I would strongly recommend that they go out and buy the new 2007 remaster and and SACD-capable system to play it on instead, but if that is impractical my old 1994 remaster will have to do. I can't beleive that anyone who likes it won't have it already, but you never know.

The irony is that the old CD is the "definitive edition remaster".  I now feel vindicated in my suspicion of anything being called 'definitive'.

I have just put this album on to listen to it in stereo and it sounds as good as ever, which I always thought was bloody good, but now I am aware it can be so much better.

Quite apart from all the extra stuff on the second (DVD) disc the sound on the new SACD version makes all sorts of improvements I never even realised were necessary.  Phil Collins is the biggest beneficiary of the remastering: his voice is so much clearer and distinct and so is the drumming.

One single moment which encapsulates the difference is the beginning of Squonk. After 20 years of listening to the album I know exactly the way it follows Entangled but on the new CD it actually surprised me as it starts with a much bigger punch.

Another surprise was how much I enjoyed Entangled.  I was looking forward especially to hearing Dance on a Volcano and Los Endos, but found that Entangled really grabbed my attention more than it ever had before.
