Out for the count

May 4th, 2007 · Posted by Skuds in Politics · 1 Comment · Politics

I am just about to go out to the count for yesterday’s elections. I don’t think there is much doubt about the outcome, but we have to go along to see whether we lost 3 or 5 seats and see how many votes we lost by.

Apparently its an important part of the democratic process to see what the quarter of the population who vote have decided to impose on the majority. The irony is that, and this is a blatant generalisation with tons of exceptions, those who don’t vote tend to be those who would be more affected by the outcome: the very people who say at the doorstep “I won’t vote because they are all the same”.

Anyway, I am going to be late. Jayne has already gone and I will have to walk down but having woken up on the sofa in the clothes I was wearing all day yesterday I felt I needed to have a good shower before setting out.

Last night I watched an episode of Black Books on DVD while having a cup of tea and some Ryvitas and afterwards I fell asleep before I could turn it off. So I spent 8 hours asleep with the TV on the menu screen playing 10 seconds of the theme tune on loop. As a result the tune is now firmly lodged in my head and its going to take some shifting. Maybe I should take the iRiver with me to see if a bit of Gang of Four or Primus will do the trick.

You should have stayed in bed, Skuds. What a sad day…and as you imply, the 64% that didn’t bother to vote will be most affected (adversely) by this.

I really feel for John Stanley here in Ifield…
