1000 Films – again

June 27th, 2007 · Posted by Skuds in Life · 2 Comments · Life

To say that I was pleased to see the Guardian’s list of 1000 films to see before you die skipped over Forrest Gump would be an enormous understatement. I am led to believe that some people actually like it, but for me it is the worst film I have ever seen. The only thing which stopped me walking out on it was the fact it was an in-flight movie.

I haven’t really studied the list, but so far the only films missing which I would have definitely included are Das Experiment, Day of the Dead and From Dusk Til Dawn, but so far my favourites have been included – Battle Royale, Apocalypse Now, Fight Club.

I expect the omission of Day of the Dead is because Night of the Living Dead crops up later. A few films I will be a little disappointed if they are not on the list are Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Two Men and a Wardrobe, Zabriskie Point, The Passenger, Lacombe Lucien, Sin City, Reservoir Dogs, Spirited Away, Mad Max, The Usual Suspects, Point Blank, V for Vendetta and High Fidelity. Be nice to see Tremors in there too. And the Wild Bunch.

None of it means anything of course, but its a good pub discussion-starter.

Just looked through as far as M and I want to know what they have against Jean de Florette (and Manon des Sources)? I can see why they don’t share my enjoyment of Legend and Labyrinth but I would also like to put a vote in for Dogma…. Could go on, but I may make my taste look really weird rather than just a bit odd.

Maybe they will under S (for Stella Artois adverts…)

A bit fewer than 50 today so still on course for 25% overall – but only because of that time I recorded a whole Louis Malle season on BBC2.

Steve Martin seems to be doing well though – Jerk, 2 Brains, Dead Men don’t wear plaid, dirty rotten scoundrels so far and there must be a good chance of Roxanne, Three Amigos, Planes, Trains & Automobiles or even Parenthood turning up later. Not expecting to see Sgt Bilko though.

I would have sacrificed a bit of Dogme for Dogma!

I bet there are a few I have seen but totally forgotten. Like I must have seen Blackboard Jungle on TV at some time, but couldn’t swear to it.
