Blurring the boundaries

November 27th, 2007 · Comments Off on Blurring the boundaries · Life, Music

On Saturday I collected a book from my sister, which was a birthday present from my other sister – a signed copy of Robert Rankin’s new book, The Da-da-de-da-da Code. I have been looking forward to this for ages, but I am resisting the urge to start reading it until I finish at least one […]

Turkey

November 25th, 2007 · Comments Off on Turkey · Life

Today we either had an early Christmas dinner or a day-late Thanksgiving dinner. We went up to Essex to visit my sister for lunch and she was kind enough to cook turkey. I like turkey, but we never have it at home. For Christmas we usually have beef and pork. The afternoon was a bit […]

Stuffed

November 25th, 2007 · Comments Off on Stuffed · Life

Today is a special day in the Sikh calendar. I’m not sure of the details – I think its Guru Nanak’s birthday or something like that – but I know its a big deal. One of my work colleagues invited me down to the gurdwara to see what goes on, and so we went there […]

Crossed wires

November 24th, 2007 · 2 Comments · Life

I think I shall give up attempting anything to do with electricity.  When I replaced the light in Chrystal's room earlier this year I managed to give myself a shock, as I did years ago when I was repairing a kettle lead. Yesterday I replaced a couple of light switches.  I managed to avoid an […]

1027 Albums

November 23rd, 2007 · Comments Off on 1027 Albums · Music

You can't please all the people, so everyone will feel that the Grauniad's 1000 albums to hear before you die list thingy is missing some essentials.  No point in getting worked up about it…  but here are some of the albums by artists they missed out, one for each letter of the alphabet: Apocalyptica – […]

What a load of rubbish!

November 22nd, 2007 · 3 Comments · Life

Who would have guessed that ‘resting’ Paul Robinson would turn out to look like a mistake? England were terrible tonight though. At half time I gave up and watched Heroes instead. But well done to ex-Hammer Slaven Bilic. His team deserved to win more than we did and looked like they wanted to win more […]

Report from the Pistols’ front line

November 20th, 2007 · Comments Off on Report from the Pistols’ front line · Music

I got a slightly miffed e-mail from Spizz today.  He tried to leave a comment here but it kept being rejected as spam.  I'm guessing it was because of all the links in it – anything with more than 2 links is assumed to be spam. Rather than turning off security for a while I […]

1000 albums

November 20th, 2007 · 4 Comments · Music

They are at it again.  Its another list. Another pointless list.  Another pointless and arbitrary list with no apparent purpose other than to stir up controversy and generate lots of comments on their blog.  Worst of all, it is as irresistible as it is pointless.  Of course, it is the Guardian's 1000 albums you must […]

Crawley drops down the table

November 19th, 2007 · Comments Off on Crawley drops down the table · Life

Last year Crawley could ‘boast’ the 3rd and 6th most violent streets in Sussex, but this year it can only manage the 11th and 20th most violent streets, while the most violent of the lot is… Terminus Rd in Eastbourne. All according to this story in the Argus. The league table is based on violent […]

Later dilemma

November 19th, 2007 · 2 Comments · Music

This Friday.  BBC 2.  Later with Jools Holland…   Manu Chao. On the other hand…  James Blunt as well.  Might be one to record and watch, ahem, later with a finger poised on the fast forward button.  Although having said that, I found Blunt's single about 1973 not entirely disagreeable, which is a worry.
