Rancid

I was catching up with the news on the internet at lunchtime today, and was mildly excited to see that this week’s Spotify update included a load of stuff on the Epitaph label – so more tracks by Bad Religion, The Offspring and Rancid.  I was rather looking forward to getting home to listen to some Rancid.Unfortunately I ended up getting home a bit late from work and had to go out almost immediately to a Crawley Campaign Against Racism meeting – and after that I had to watch the last Back to the Future film, but I did eventually get onto the PC.  It was disappointing to find that the …And Out Come The Wolves album is still missing, but there are now three other Rancid albums to add to the playlists.

Found some interesting other stuff in the new update: some real names to capture the imagination.  There was a band that sounds like a character from Viz – Gas Huffer.   And if you want vaguely amusing names, how about the track Jackhammer Floral Arrangement, from Midget Handjob’s album Midnight Snack Break at the Poodle Factory?  I also saw that three albums by Noam Chomsky have been added, in an attempt to get Richard Symonds to sign up…

Welcome development… gas huffer are OK. Rancid are of course completely brill.

Do you know if they’ve put any of the old Dwarves or All records on there?

I confess that I prefer the more ska-tinged songs of Rancid.

Quite a bit of All on Spotify, though I haven’t listened to any of it. Not so much Dwarves. I did listen to a few tracks when I was first exploring Spotify but I found them a bit hardcore for me at the time.

Might be worth another listen now I have been listening to more west coast punk – not a genre I had really heard much of before.
